Craig Schultz

Agency: Kansas City Police Department, MO

During his years on the force, Craig received awards for good conduct and meritorious service. Captain Dale Barlow read proclamations honoring Schultz from Kansas City Mayor Kay Barnes to the Missouri House of Representatives and the Missouri Senate.

Throughout his life Craig was remembered to be a compassionate and engaging person who always had positive interactions with those who he met. Many reflections remember the extra mile he went to be a friend to those who he interacted with.

Craig Schultz was an amazing man who held his work, friends, and family in the highest regard.

Officer Craig Schultz passed in a motorcycle accident on I-29 when responding to another accident. During his response, his motorcycle went out of control when it struck a wet spot on the roadway.

Officer Schultz had been a member of the Kansas City Police Department for 11 years, and is survived by his wife and two young daughters.

Reflections:

I remember you very well from early on in my career with KCPD. You were in the traffic division (prior to being on a motor). I was an Entrant Officer in the Academy and ran into you one night after hours (at the Academy) when I was showing my toddler son all the police cars. I will always remember your extreme kindness to me (An Entrant Officer or "Boot" not proven to be a Police Officer yet that most Police Officers wouldn't even talk to) and my Son. You took the time to get to know me and my young Son. If you recall, you took me and my Son out in one of the squad cars and let my Son turn on the lights and sound the Siren! You went above and beyond what most veteran officers would do for a white shirt trainee and I always have remembered that. I did get stopped by you a couple times during the years I was a Police Officer in KC and you were always very nice, smiling, and fun to talk to. I would also run into you quite regularly at the KCPD gas station. I moved on before your death and I am still a Police Officer in Saint Paul Minnesota. I heard of your death on your Motor too long after it happened. Interestly enough, I just finished my own Police Motor assignment and thought of you often during it. To this day, my Son, now going on fifteen still talks about that night your shining soul impacted him.

I first met Craig Schultz when he worked in the Accident Investigation Section. He was the one who got the section to start drawing scale crash scenes in the computer. He was definitely a perfectionist. Craig became a member of the Hostage Negotiation Team over a year ago and had several negotiation successes. He definitely had the gift to gab!! Craig always had a smile on his face. Although Craig is gone, I will always be looking for him when I see a KCPD motorcycle go by.

Craig was the first person who I road along with in KCMO. He was such a great guy to be around, funny, laid back, and devoted to his job. I will always remember how he treated me as if I was on the force the day I road. He let me do almost anything that night and I owe it to him, the passion I have to become an officer. I am sorry we didn't keep in touch like we said we would, but its to late to go back. You are sadly missed my friend of years passed. I know you died the way you wanted, and are watching after your huge family you were apart of for so long. Thanks for being a part of my life. I miss you-KAT

Craig was a friend, always ready with a smile, a wise crack or to give you a listen. He was a man always striving to do his best, no matter the assignment. Our loss is great. I will miss him.

I've spoken with Craig on and off for the 4 1/2 years, and I must say you hardly ever saw him without a smile. He was a great guy who took his work seriously, a "PERFECTIONIST".. He was damn good at his job and everytime I would pass by whether it be on-duty or off-duty he would always have that smile on his face. Craig you will be dearly missed and most of all never forgotten! God be with you!!!
