James H. horn

Officer Horn became a member of the Kansas City Police Department in 1916 after serving as a fireman for twenty-five years. Officer Horn, 55, born in Niagara Falls, New York, was a first generation American - both parents, James and Sarah, were born in Ireland. He was survived by his wife, a daughter and sixteen year-old son, James. 

Patrolman Horn was killed in a two car automobile accident on July 17, 1920. Officer Horn was a passenger in one of the cars and was thrown out of the front side of the vehicle. He had been working at Penn Valley Park and accepted a ride offered by Wier Gray. When they drove through the intersection of 12th and Campbell shortly after 8:00 am a Ford automobile collided with the vehicle driven by Wier Gray. Officer Horn was pronounced dead at the scene from injuries due to the automobile accident.
