Robert Delaine Edmunds
Agency: Kansas City Police Department, MO
Robert Delaine Edmunds served with the Kansas City Police Department for five months.
Officer Edmunds was a probationary policeman who had volunteered to work overtime at the Gene Autry concert held at the Municipal Auditorium. He was scheduled to go off duty at 3:00 p.m. but a fire in downtown Kansas City created a shortage of officers so he worked late. Officer Edmunds was killed when his motorcycle was struck by a car making a left turn at the corner of 29th Street and Prospect Avenue. He was pronounced dead at Menorah Hospital.
Officer Edmunds, 21, was survived by his wife, Jean C. Edmunds.
